Load Control Academy
Today you are the load controller on duty in a CLC (Centralised Load Control) office. You will run the full W&B (Weight & Balance) process for flight LC533 ESB→IST. Hover over any dotted-underlined abbreviation to see its expansion; the full list is under Abbreviations in the toolbar. First, meet the team:
Opens the flight in the DCS/W&B system, computes EZFW, issues the Loading Instruction (LIR), produces the loadsheet, applies LMCs, sends LDM/CPM messages.
Allocates flights to controllers, monitors deadlines and quality, decides on overload / offload / DG irregularities, authorises non-standard procedures.
Owns the procedures manual (AHM 590 duties split); runs training/licensing, ISAGO audits and airline agreements (SGHA Annex B).
Meets the aircraft, supervises loading per the LIR, reports deviations to load control, signs the loading report, confirms hold doors closed, delivers documents to the cockpit.
Ultimately responsible that the aircraft is loaded within limits. Cross-checks the loadsheet (pax count, fuel, limits, trim), signs it or accepts via ACARS; acknowledges the NOTOC.
Global trend: remote Centralised Load Control — e.g. Lufthansa's Global Load Control (Cape Town/Brno/Istanbul), Swissport CLC, dnata. One controller can handle dozens of flights per shift.
Flight file LC533
An early-morning A319 rotation: only 58 passengers, little baggage and human remains (HUM) aboard. Teaches why CG management gets harder on light loads, plus special-load dignity and segregation rules.
