Load Control Academy

Weight & balance simulator

Every flight leaves the gate with one sheet of numbers behind it. Learn to write it.

You are the load controller on duty in a centralised load control office. Open the flight, send the EZFW to dispatch, plan the holds, catch the ramp’s deviation, finalise the loadsheet the captain will accept and handle the last-minute changes before the doors close.

What you will learn

  1. Weights that bind

DOW, ZFW, TOW and LAW against MZFW, MTOW and MLW — and which limit leaves the underload you can still sell.

  2. Where the weight sits

Holds, index and %MAC: why trim is about where the load goes rather than how much of it there is.

  3. The documents

The loading instruction, the loadsheet, the NOTOC, the LMC box and the LDM, CPM and MVT telexes.

  4. Who tells whom what

Dispatch, check-in, cargo, the ramp and the captain, all talking to load control at the centre.

  5. The fleet

Narrowbody or widebody, ULD or bulk, across thirty-four Airbus and Boeing types.

A shift in nine phases

  1. Roles

Meet the team in a centralised load control office.

  2. Flight Init

Open the flight; DOW and DOI come from the registration.

  3. EZFW

Send an estimated zero-fuel weight to dispatch and get the fuel back.

  4. Load Plan

Distribute bags, cargo and mail across the holds and keep the trim in the green.

  5. Ramp Report

Check-in closes and the ramp reports a deviation from the plan.

  6. Final Loadsheet

Check every limit and get the captain’s acceptance.

  7. LMC

Late passengers and a fuel request arrive at the door.

  8. Offblock & Msgs

Doors close; send the LDM, CPM and MVT.

  9. Debrief

Your score, your badges and a recap of the whole process.
